Joining forces — scaling impact

Connecting RDM capacity building across FAIRagro and de.NBI / ELIXIR-DE

Research data management (RDM) landscapes often evolve through many parallel activities across domains, communities, institutions and infrastructures. While valuable services, training opportunities, and expertise already exist in the life sciences and agriculture science, their impact may remain limited when efforts are disconnected and difficult to discover.

Strengthening collaboration in capacity building offers an opportunity not only to share resources but also to amplify existing strengths and create broader, more sustainable impact.

This poster presents the emerging collaboration between FAIRagro and de.NBI & ELIXIR-DE as an example of how joining forces can transform individual activities into a connected ecosystem aligned with the needs of different, but related, research communities. Initial interactions have focused on joint training activities, bringing together expertise and communities from different domains, as well as creating opportunities for exchange and mutual learning. Beyond the immediate benefits for participants, these activities have helped establish connections between initiatives, increase the awareness and visibility of existing resources, and identify opportunities for broader collaboration.

Building on these first experiences, the collaboration opens perspectives that extend beyond training itself. Future synergies may include scaling training activities through Train-the-Trainer approaches, supporting strategies for institutional embedding, anchoring RDM and FAIR data practices into curricula, improving the visibility and integration of RDM services, and promoting collaboration around FAIR guidance, scientific workflows, and metadata standards.

By connecting communities and building on existing resources rather than creating parallel structures, this collaboration has the potential to strengthen capacity building and contribute to a more visible, interoperable, and sustainable FAIR ecosystem across life sciences and agriculture.
